He didn't know why he accepted Mozer's request of joining that breeding program- he wasn't desperate for attention, really! Although he could only imagine what sorts of other creatures would join a program like that. Nothing pretty really came to mind. He sighed a little bit as he sat down in a small clearing, he was supposed to meet whoever it was. Of course he'd arrived early, not like he had anything better to do. He did have a pack on a moment ago, but due to a miscalculation when he shifted it, it was now lying on the ground at the edge of the clearing. The longer he sat there though, the more he felt like he'd entered into one of those ridiculous blind-date programs he'd seen humans use on tv. He fidgeted a bit and began to idly cut things- bits of grass... twigs... a rock or two. He tried to pick up a flower, but ended up turning it into confetti. Sometimes he just wished he'd been gifted with hands, maybe a small secondary set... They didn't even have to be strong so long as they were not bladed. His mind drifted off on this topic, and pretty soon he lost track of time. His mind snapped back into place when he realized it was getting somewhat close to their meeting time, although what really caught his attention was that some insect had bit his back... Luckily he had carved a stick down to what could more or less be considered a back scratched, he was having some trouble trying to use it though as he had to hold it in his teeth.

When she met with Mozer, two days prior, he'd asked her-- oddly, to her mind-- if she minded weapons. The answer had been an unequivocal ' no', of course, though she, herself, had some trouble using them. He had then-- also oddly-- changed the subject to a meet-up in regards to the breeding program. This wouldn't be her first foray into these unfamiliar grounds of cross-species breeding, so at least she wasn't too terribly nervous. Actually, she felt pretty calm about the whole thing; Mozer had evidently met up with the male previously and seemed to think he was a good enough tsume. Therefore, when the Fire Explorer flew overhead of the clearing, she wasn't surprised to see someone already there. She landed gracefully a few feet away and tilted her head to one side to inspect the male. He seemed to have some very odd protuberances, a thought only partially changed when she realized he had a stick in his teeth. The white Gryvern blinked in some surprise-- at least that wasn't some strange horn-- and tried to make better sense of what she was seeing. Even subtracting the stick from the sight didn't change the fact that he was very. . . pointy. She felt a pang of concern about how exactly this would work out. She hesitated for only a moment longer, however, before offering, "Do you need some assistance?"

He hadn't noticed her right away, as attempting to use his makeshift backscratcher on a spot he could not see was more difficult than one might expect... When she came close to landing though he nearly jumped a bit, they could Fly? They didn't even have wings... His own were admittedly much too small to be used for anything other than decoration or scaring off flies. Part of his nervousness stemmed from the fact he'd never actually made a 'foray' into breeding of any sort.
He realized he was staring about then and quickly moved his head to drop the stick, part of it caught on a elbow spike though and was sheared clean off before he dropped it... His wings fluttered a bit uneasily as he glanced at it, then smiled a little up to her. "O-oh, no I'm fine." he said a little hastily, before shaking his head and clearing his throat a little. "Sorry, I must've looked pretty foolish back there..." when his head shook, the row of small spikes and blades trailing down his spine rattled. This could definitely be interesting.
The second bit of surprise hit him, although it was not terribly obvious to the outside world... other than a slight gleam of admiration in his eyes. He hadn't imagined that anyone so... Good looking would consider something like this, surely she would have gotten a mate by now? It was true he knew very little about gryvern, but he knew a good thing when he saw it.

Mahu watched the stick drop instinctively-- Explorers needed to keep an eye on movement-- but the 'watch' turned briefly into 'stare' when part of the stick was quite cleanly removed by an elbow spike. Her ears twitched as he spoke and she pulled her eyes up-- rather distractedly-- from the now sticks. "Oh, not really," she answered that easily, though her blue eyes slipped to glance at his spine at the new sound and her finned ears perked upwards just a bit more. At least she wasn't the male in this situation. "You looked simply as though you were having some trouble accomplishing. . . well, whatever it was you were trying to do." She smiled at him, oblivious to any admiration on his part.
Her own admiration for such natural weaponry was admittedly a bit biased currently towards the 'how in the world was this supposed to work?' category. One part of her mind was occupied with trying to catalog the spikes and things so that she could see that could cause her a great deal of damage. Maybe they should request a Healer to be standing by?
The other part of her mind was simply on the conversation, however. There was nothing saying they had to have a fling, and she certainly wouldn't want to bear children with bad personalities or genetics. "My name is Mahu-Ike," she told the tsume. "Feel free to call me Mahu. I'm a Fire Explorer." This was announced in a sort of leading manner; she fully expected the same type of information from him.

The tsume tilted his head a bit, she was far more formal than most that he had talked to... But he didn't really mind, it made it easier to keep himself from getting flustered due to these odd circumstances. He rubbed part of his snout with the back edge of a bladed arm, atleast only one side of it was sharp. "Oh... A beetle bit me on the back, it's hard for me to reach back there."
He caught onto the fact she was inspecting him, as he was inspecting her as well. She looked simple, somewhat delicate, and elegant. He would have added harmless, but one could never tell what abilities lay beneath a calm exterior. Regardless of that he thought she was pretty stunning so far as perspective females go... he also hoped she didn't scar easily. Idly he turned this way, then that to allow her a better look at his various features.
"Nice to meet you." He smiled and bowed his head. "My name is Volos, and I am... well.." he lifted a arm and waved it a little "A Bladed tsume." He felt a little silly saying that, it was more than a little obvious he was sure. The only parts that lacked blades were his tail, and underbelly. "Some of my friends call me spike, you're free to as well, I don't mind either name." well, he actually liked Volos better, but he wouldn't admit that.

Mahu tilted her head in interest. "With all those blade-things on your back. . . well, never mind." She was a bit surprised, however, that anything could have gotten to his back to bite him. "It's nice to meet you, Volos." Better to not remind herself of all the poke-y things coming off of him by calling him Spike. "I didn't know there was such a thing as a Bladed tsume," she admitted this without shame. "I didn't make many of the briefs on your kind. Well, except for the Sins. . ." That had been a rather. . . uncomfortable conversation.
It was very nice of him to let her see one side and the next; he seemed very symmetrical. That was always a plus to the female; she didn't care for asymmetry. Still, it did beg the question of just how this would work. For a moment she was stymied, but it wasn't in her nature to just sit idly by. "Do you mind me being blunt?" she asked quizzically.

He turned to the side slightly, to show the bite... which was just below his shoulder, and beside the line of blades. It wasn't a very big mark, but was obvious enough if you knew what you were looking for. He shrugged after that though and glanced around. "I can't keep track of our types either..." he shuddered at the mention of the sins, he hadn't personally met one but a number of the things he knew had.
Again his stunted wings fluttered a bit when she spoke, curious as to what she wanted to be blunt about.. Although he definitely had an inkling of what it may be. For a moment he paused mentally, wondering if that was an actual question or if it was a pun about him being sharp, and her not. Of course his answer was the same to either. "I don't mind." He tilted his head as his red eyes scanned over her form idly... He wondered how she put on that jewelry.

Mahu wasn't concerned, really, that he didn't keep track of Gryvern Types, especially after her own admission mere moments earlier. She found his reaction to the mention of Sins interesting as well, and wondered at it, but there were other things to consider first.
The idea of punning hadn't been in her mind at all and certainly didn't occur to her now, though she would have been amused by her accidental use of it. "I have to admit, I'm not entirely how this will work," she said, taking him at his word that she could be blunt. "I'm not a masochist and certainly have no desire to be skewered."
And, really, that was the extent of her concern with their potential dalliance.

Volos smirked a bit when she spoke, that wasn't even blunt so far as he was concerned. His expression soon changed back to a simple smile as he glanced around at the various bladed protuberances that dotted his body and composed most of his limbs. One on his arm shimmered for a moment before he lifted it up infront of her. "Try touching it, I can dull the edges for awhile if I need to... And it should be easy enough to avoid the tips." He grinned a little bit more. "And I'm glad you're not a masochist, those kind of people always creep me out."
He wasn't sure if he should mention he'd never actually done it before... That wasn't such an important bit of information was it? He knew how things were supposed to go, atleast with tsumes... And gryvern weren't that much different right? He'd seen Jaradka's kids running all over the place before.
He had dulled the blade, but the tips remained semi-dangerous. While not overly sharp now, they were still pointy and could easily pierce something if approached in the wrong manner. His little wings fluttered again, then folded down as he thought.

Mahu approached him in a loose-jointed walk that showed no perturbation or unease at his physical appearance, despite their current conversation. She put out a paw to carefully touch the blade extended towards her. "Oh, hey, that's handy!" she murmured. "Did you to that to all of them at once?" She paused and a slightly more important question came to mind, "How long can you keep them dulled?" Because that could be a horribly unpleasant surprise in the middle of an otherwise enjoyable exercise.

The blade was incredibly smooth, and not as cold to the touch as one might expect. Giving away the fact it really was a part of a living being, and not some random addition. He rarely let anyone touch his blades, who was not subsequently impaled upon them. Actually, he rarely let people touch him in general, not that many ever tried it was risky after all. For a moment he looked a bit dubious at the handy comment, but then shook it off, she probably wasn't making fun of his lack of hands like most of his friends did.
"I did all of the main ones, there are too many on my back though." he swished his tail- which for some reason looked like it should have been longer, but had at some point been cut down in size. "They'll be dull until I sharpen them again, don't worry." his mind wandered a little bit again. "Any surprises I should be aware of from you?"

"I wonder if hybrid babies would be able to do that as well," Mahu wondered aloud. She tilted her head at his explanation about the blades and then realized he likely meant until he chose to make them sharp again. Imagine having to sharpen every single one of those against a rock or something. The idea made her smile even as she turned her attention to his question for her.
The gryvern sat down next to him and took a moment to think about it. "Nothing life-threatening," she finally announced, her smile widening briefly. "Actually, i'm just an average Gryvern. I almost became a Warriour, but the created the Explorer Caste and I knew that just fit me better."

Volos shrugged slightly at that comment about hybrids, he really didn't know what they'd be able to do. Sometimes hybrid creatures got a bit from both parents, and other times they got nothing. There was probably some science to it, but he had no idea. So far as the sharpening though, it was kind of a hobby for him. There wasn't much else to do with his free time, other than cut things.
"You sure you're not full of lava, or randomly breath fire?" he asked jokingly, before prodding her with the back edge of one bladed hand. "Hmm... I think if I had a job it'd be either as a warrior, or gardener. Not really equipped for much else."

Mahu tilted her head to the other side thoughtfully. "I think I know of a tsume whose veins are filled with lava," she offered helpfully. "I think Mozer is hoping that will pass on to the Gryverns, though." Personally, she thought that seemed a bit awkward, but, hey. No one had asked her.
She watched him prod her, and gave an amused laugh at his would-be Castes. "I don't think there are any Gryvern naturally set up to be a gardener," she said brightly. "Do you garden in your free time?"

Volos knew someone who was full of lava- or atleast lava like blood. He would have been pretty amused if he realized it was the same inferno tsume they were thinking of. Regardless of that he shivered at the thought, that would be one very, very unpleasant surprise for him in such a situation... "I think I'll pass on the inferno tsumes... Burns disagree with me."
He smiled wider as she laughed, giving a slight blush at her comment- well, he did garden sometimes. "Oh, I sometimes I help one of my friends maintain their garden... Trimming things, cutting down trees and etc. It can be pretty fun."
