While there is a gryvern who is now known only as the Tactician, this is actually a Caste.
A Tactician is a student and a teacher; they can learn virtually any ability, and are gifted with the ability to teach others. Often a Tactician will specialize in one kind of ability, either Type or Caste. Most Tacticians begin in a different Caste and grow in power and knowledge until such time as they can step into the role.
Those Gryvern who wish to become Tacticians must apply to the Tactician; he opens them to be able to learn all of the abilities in their chosen field and grants them the capability to pass this knowledge on to others.
The Tactician is a special break to this rule: he currently knows every abilitiy known to gryvern, though he will not always agree to teach it to those who seek him.
